Hans is a professional forester with post-graduate qualifications in forest policy and natural resources sociology, and a former managing director of State Forests NSW and executive general manager of Forestry Tasmania. Hans has been involved with the development of the Australian Forest Certification Scheme, and its endorsement by the PEFC over the last 13 years. In recent times, he has been instrumental in the development of a more active multi-nation promotion of the PEFC in the Asian region, and served on the PEFC International Governance Review Panel. Hans is a Director of the PEFC Council.
Alison Carmichael Dip Ag Sci, M. Ed(E&T). Grad Dip FET, GAICD, Fellow AusAE
Ms Carmichael is General Manager of Agsafe Limited, a not for profit organisation providing stewardship services to the agricultural sector and was previously CEO of the Institute of Foresters of Australia. Alison has had extensive experience in membership-based and not-for-profit organisations in a range of roles including chief executive officer, consultant, senior manager, company secretary and board member. Her executive experience covers forestry, irrigation, natural resource management, energy efficiency, safety and product stewardship. One of her specialties is in developing and managing accreditation and certification programs, both voluntary and regulatory, and the associated standards and codes.
Ms Carmichael is Chair of Marketing and Communications Committee and a member of the Governance Committee.
Alan Bones has been involved in all aspects of the timber industry in two countries over twenty years.
After cutting his teeth in other building materials in Western Australia, he took a Sydney based role as a Product Manager for CSR Structaflor particleboard flooring. Three years later (after adding Weathertex, a hardboard cladding material to his portfolio) he moved to Oberon to become Business Manager for Structaflor, responsible for all aspects of the operations as well as marketing the range. A brief stint with CSR Timber Products as Sales & Marketing Manager across several softwood sawmills ended abruptly when CSR sold the business, and paved the way to join Boral Timber for five years as GM – Sales & Marketing, responsible for hardwood, softwood and plywood markets in both Australia and the USA.
He joined Carter Holt Harvey in New Zealand when it was a public company almost twelve years ago, responsible for sales and marketing of the New Zealand manufacturing businesses. Tenon’s structural assets were acquired, and then the company was privatised under the Rank Group in 2006. In his time at CHH a number of assets have been bought, sold, closed, expanded, and restructured. At various times that has included multiple sawmills, plywood factories, an LVL plant, MDF, particleboard, and melamine production, roundwood, reman, and even an interior design business. He has done business in such far flung places as South Africa and the Middle East, and is delighted to have been lucky enough to work with the world’s only truly renewable building material.
Colin was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Timber Building Materials Association (TABMA) in February 2008. Prior to which, Colin held the position of Managing Director with Moirs Paper, a Sydney based paper merchant. Before which, Colin was General Manager of Victa Ltd, a division of the Sunbeam Victa Corporation
Suzanne is an environmental scientist and certified auditor. Her experience includes Directorships and/or senior environment management roles with a range of organisations including National Standards Development Organisation Ltd, Australian Land Management Group, Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority, the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand, Good Environmental Choice Australia, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Vodafone Australia, SAI Global and AGL.
Craig is the NSW District Secretary and Divisional National Vice President of the Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Division, Forestry and Furnishing Products Division. He has over 25 years experience as a paid Official of the Union. Craig has trade qualifications in cabinet making and wood machining and a Certificate IV qualification in business management and accounting. Craig is a current Director of ForestWorks Limited and ForestWorks Industry Skills Council, he is also a Member and Chairperson of two industry training and skills development advisory steering committees in NSW. Craig is dedicated to the work of representing and advancing the interests of workers in the forestry and furnishing industries and the principles of trade unionism.
Nathan Trushell B.Sc. (REM), MIFA
Nathan has 25 years of experience in natural resource management, during much of this time holding various senior forestry management positions within Victoria. Nathan holds a B.Sc in Resource and Environmental Management form the Australian National University, is a fellow of the World Forestry Institute and has completed management and director training at the Melbourne Business School and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Nathan is currently based in Melbourne and employed by VicForests as General Manager of Stakeholders and Planning.
Mr Trushell is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee and a member of the Governance Committee.
David West B.Sc. (For), MBA
David has over 30 years experience in public and private commercial forest management in Queensland, including management roles in forest stewardship and risk, sales and marketing, resources, strategic planning and business services. David is currently General Manager Stewardship, HQPlantations and his responsibilities include the management of HQPlantations forest certification activities.
